Von Duprin 051802 US26 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What comes in the Von Duprin 051802 36 inch extension rod kit?
The 051802 kit ships as a component set, not a single rod: (2) rod guide packages, (2) rod guide mounting packages, (10) rod roll pins, and (4) rod extension connectors. That is the guide, mounting and connection hardware needed to extend or restore rod operation on a 9927 or 9957 vertical rod device. If your rods themselves are bent or the device chassis is damaged, this kit does not cover that.
2) Will the Von Duprin 051802 extension rod kit work on a 9947 or a 9827 exit device?
No. The 051802 extension rod kit is built for the Von Duprin 9927 and 9957 Series vertical rod devices only. Rod hardware is series specific across the 98 and 99 lines, so a kit called out for 9927/9957 should not be forced onto another model number. Match the device number stamped on your existing chassis before ordering.
3) Are these genuine Von Duprin parts or aftermarket rod hardware?
Genuine Von Duprin, built to OEM specification for the 9927 and 9957 product lines. That matters more on exit hardware than on most parts: a fire exit device installed with non-OEM components can void the device listing, and an inspector who sees mismatched rod hardware on a labeled opening will write it up.
4) Do I need one extension rod kit per door or per pair of doors?
One kit per door leaf. A 9927 or 9957 is a vertical rod device with top and bottom rods on a single leaf, so a pair of doors carrying a vertical rod device on each leaf takes two kits. Order finish to match on both, since the rods on a pair sit side by side and any difference shows.
5) My exit device rods rattle and the door is not latching at the top. Is this the part I need?
Very likely, if the device is a 9927 or 9957. Loose or missing rod guides let the rod flex away from the door face, which throws off the top latch engagement, and worn roll pins let connections walk. The 051802 kit carries both rod guide packages and their mounting packages plus ten roll pins and four extension connectors, so it covers the alignment and connection hardware that causes that symptom.
6) Is the Von Duprin 051802 a complete rod assembly or just the guide and pin hardware?
Hardware kit. What you get is the guide, mounting, pinning and connector hardware that makes an extended rod run work: two rod guide packages, two rod guide mounting packages, ten rod roll pins, four rod extension connectors. Plan the job around that; it is the extension and alignment complement for a 36 inch application on a 9927 or 9957, not a drop-in replacement device.

These extension rods increase the length of the vertical rods in the exit device, allowing for proper connection and operation of the top and bottom latches on doors that exceed the standard height for these devices.

This Von Duprin kit makes their 9927 and 9957 panic bars fit taller doors. If your door is high, these 3-foot rods give you the extra length so the top and bottom locks can work. It's a simple way to make sure the panic bar fits your door and keeps it secure.

If you are spec’ing doors over 7 feet, you have no choice. The 051802 is the only way to maintain the Grade 1 fire and life-safety rating for the 9927 surface or 9957 concealed series.
