WAC Lighting WAC-WS-W24513 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the WAC Steampunk WS-W24513 wall sconce be mounted on an exposed exterior wall that gets rain?
Yes. The Steampunk WS-W24513 is Wet Location rated and carries an IP65 rating along with ETL and cETL listings, so direct rain exposure on an open exterior wall is within its rating. The housing is aluminum and the glass is clear mouth blown hammered and seeded. It's listed for both indoor and outdoor use, so the same fixture can carry an entry, a covered porch, or an interior stair wall.
2) Will the WS-W24513 sconce mount over a standard pancake junction box?
It will. The 7.5 inch round backplate covers a pancake box, and because this is a 120V AC LED fixture it needs no remote driver or transformer to hide behind the plate. It's a hardwired wall mount only, with an overall 12.75 inch height and 8.25 inch width.
3) What dimmer do I need for the WAC Steampunk LED outdoor sconce?
Use an electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer. The fixture dims smooth and continuous on ELV; it is not a TRIAC/incandescent-dimmer product, so a standard forward-phase dimmer is the wrong control and will usually give you flicker or a limited range. Specify ELV dimmers on the job if these sconces are on a controlled circuit.
4) Does the WAC Steampunk sconce meet California Title 24?
Yes, it is Title 24 Compliant and also Title 20 listed, which is what you need for residential and light commercial outdoor lighting permits in California. Note that it is not ADA compliant and not Energy Star rated, so if the location is a required ADA-protruding-objects path you'll want a different, shallower fixture.
5) How much light does the 12.75 inch Steampunk sconce actually put out, and is it enough for an entry?
657 lumens from a 10W integrated LED at 3000K, with a flood beam spread. That is accent and entry level light, warm in tone, spread wide rather than thrown far, so it reads as a decorative sconce flanking a door rather than a security floodlight. If you need task-level illumination on a walkway, plan on additional fixtures or a dedicated flood.
6) Do I ever have to relamp the Steampunk WS-W24513, or is the LED built in?
The LED is integrated, included, and not user replaceable. One light source, rated at 80,000 hours average life. For a property manager that means no lamp stocking and no relamping cycle for this fixture, but at end of life the whole sconce is the replacement unit.
7) What finishes and color temperatures does the WS-W24513 Steampunk sconce come in?
Two orderable combinations: black (WS-W24513-BK) and bronze (WS-W24513-BZ), both at 3000K. The Steampunk collection as a whole is offered in aged brass, black bronze and graphite across two sizes, so if you're matching existing sconces on a building, confirm the finish code on the fixture you're replacing. Custom CCT, plus 277V and 240V, are special order from WAC.
8) Can I run the Steampunk WS-W24513 on a 277V commercial lighting circuit?
Not as catalogued. The standard fixture is 120V AC. WAC lists 277V and 240V as special order options, so a 277V building circuit means a special-order version rather than the stock part number.
9) Will this sconce hold up on a coastal or high-humidity building exterior?
Construction is die-cast aluminum with a weather resistant finish and mouth blown glass, wet location rated and IP65. That covers rain, washdown spray, and humid exposure. The description does not extend to salt-spray or marine-grade qualification, so for direct oceanfront exposure treat finish life as a maintenance item.
