WAC Lighting WAC-PD-37224 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will this pendant mount on a sloped ceiling?
Yes, the Valerius is sloped ceiling compatible and mounts to the ceiling on a rod with an 8.13 inch backplate. Hardwired only, so you need a junction box at the location.
2) Can I use the Valerius pendant on a covered porch or in a bathroom?
It is damp location rated with an IP44 rating and ETL/cETL listing, so a covered porch, a breezeway, or a bathroom outside the shower spray is fine. It is not wet location rated, so do not hang it where rain hits it directly.
3) What dimmer works with this LED pendant, and will it flicker on my existing switch?
The driver takes ELV (electronic low voltage) or TRIAC dimmers, and WAC specifies smooth continuous dimming with either. A standard incandescent/leading-edge dimmer that is not TRIAC-rated for LED loads is the usual cause of flicker, so match the dimmer to one of those two types. Total load is 34.4W.
4) Does this pendant work on 277V commercial power?
Yes. The Valerius uses a universal input driver rated 120V, 240V and 277V, concealed inside the fixture, so the same part number works in a residential 120V install and on a 277V commercial lighting branch circuit.
5) Does the WAC Valerius pendant meet California Title 24?
Yes, it is Title 24 and Title 20 compliant, and ETL and cETL listed. It is not Energy Star certified. It is also listed as ADA compliant.
6) How much light does the Valerius put out and will I ever have to change a bulb?
3500 lumens at 3000K with a flood distribution and a 90 CRI, drawing 34.4W. The LEDs are integrated and included, rated 50,000 hours, so there is no lamp to replace. The tradeoff for an MRO buyer is that at end of life the fixture is replaced, not relamped.
7) How big is the Valerius fixture, and how much clearance does it need?
The fixture body measures 21.38 inches wide, 23.5 inches long and 17.75 inches high, with an 8.13 inch backplate at the ceiling. It is built from three silicone oval diffusers on an aluminum frame, and each oval can be positioned independently, so the spread of the arrangement is adjustable once it is up.
8) Is the 3000K color temperature switchable on this pendant?
No. The Valerius is fixed at 3000K warm white with a 90 CRI; there is no field-selectable CCT switch. Both the black and brushed nickel versions are 3000K only, so it will not match 2700K or 4000K fixtures elsewhere in the room.
9) What finishes does the Valerius pendant come in, and what are the part numbers?
Two finishes, both at 3000K: black is PD-37224-BK and brushed nickel is PD-37224-BN. If you are standardizing a lobby or a run of units, those are the only two options in the Valerius pendant, so the finish decision is black or nickel.
