1) Will the WAC 5111-HCL honeycomb louver fit a standard or grand size accent light?
No. The 5111-HCL louver is sized for the Mini Accent Light. WAC makes the snap-on honeycomb louver in mini, standard and grand accent sizes, so you order according to the size of the accent light you already have. Put a mini louver on a standard or grand head and it won't snap onto the lens.
2) How does the WAC snap-on honeycomb louver attach to a landscape accent light?
It snaps directly onto the lens of the light engine, no tools and no disassembly of the fixture. If you already run a cowl on the head, the louver still works, it snaps on inside the cowl.
3) Can I use a honeycomb louver on non-WAC landscape fixtures?
No. The snap-on honeycomb louver is intended for WAC Landscape Lighting products and is dimensioned to the WAC mini accent lens. It isn't a universal glare shield for another manufacturer's spot head.
4) Is a honeycomb louver the right fix for glare, or should I use a cowl or a hex cell shield instead?
A honeycomb louver is the choice when the light source itself is in someone's sight line, walkways, seating areas, low uplights near windows. The cell structure cuts the visible brightness of the lens significantly while letting the beam through. A cowl blocks light off one side and shields the source from a particular direction, which is better when you need to keep spill off a wall or a neighbor's property. They are not either/or on WAC heads: the louver snaps on inside the cowl, so you can run both on the same fixture.
5) Does adding a honeycomb louver change the voltage or driver requirements on a WAC mini accent light?
No. It's a passive snap-on shield with no electrical connection. The mini accent light it mounts to stays a 12V hardwired integrated LED, 7W, 420 lumens at 2700K, MLV dimmable, with a 36 inch lead. Nothing about the transformer or the run changes.
6) Is there a honeycomb louver for WAC wall wash heads too, or only accent lights?
WAC offers the snap-on honeycomb louver for the Mini, Standard and Adjustable wall wash as well as the mini, standard and grand accents. Match the louver to the head you're shielding, the 5111-HCL is the mini accent version.
7) Will a honeycomb louver survive year-round outdoor use in an irrigated bed?
It's injection molded PC (polycarbonate) in a black finish, engineered for long-term outdoor exposure, and the accent light it mounts to is rated UL, cUL and IP66 for wet locations. Black PC keeps the accessory visually quiet during the day instead of reflecting like a metal trim.
8) I'm specifying WAC landscape accents on a Title 24 job. Do the louvers affect compliance?
The mini accent light platform is listed as Title 24 compliant and ADA compliant, and the louver is a mechanical glare accessory that doesn't alter the light engine's wattage or listing. Adding it is a shielding decision, not a compliance one.
