WAC Lighting WAC-SK05 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the WAC SK05 suspension rod adapter actually do?
The SK05 is the fitting you add when you cut a WAC suspension rod down to a custom drop length. Stock rods come in 18, 24, 36 and 48 inch lengths with the end already prepared; once you cut one in the field that prepared end is gone, and the SK05 restores the connection so the shortened rod ties back into the track suspension. It is a small die cast aluminum part, 0.63 inches on each side.
2) Does the SK05 come with the suspension rod, or do I order the rod separately?
The adapter is sold on its own. WAC states plainly that this is not a complete system, so the suspension rod, the track, and the feed all get ordered separately. Budget one SK05 per rod you intend to cut. Mounting hardware for the adapter itself is included.
3) What finishes does the SK05 adapter come in, and will it match my existing WAC track?
Four finishes: black (SK05-BK), brushed nickel (SK05-BN), dark bronze (SK05-DB) and white (SK05-WT). Those are the standard WAC track finishes, so order the adapter in the same finish code as the track and rods already on the job and the drop reads as one assembly.
4) Can I use the SK05 suspension rod adapter outdoors or in a covered parking structure?
No. The SK05 and the H/J/J2/L track system it belongs to are UL and cUL Listed for dry locations only, and the part is rated interior. A covered garage, canopy or anywhere subject to condensation is outside that listing, so specify a wet or damp location rated fixture family instead.
5) Is the SK05 adapter hardwired into the circuit, or is it just mechanical?
It belongs to a hardwired 120V track system, so the whole assembly is a permanently connected installation rather than a plug-in one. Plan the drop around a junction box and a licensed electrician, not a cord and plug.
6) Does the SK05 adapter count toward Title 24 or Energy Star on a California job?
No on both. WAC lists the SK05 as neither Title 24 compliant nor Energy Star, and it is also not ADA compliant. That is expected for a suspension hardware piece rather than a luminaire, but if your submittal package is tracking compliance line by line, the credit has to come from the fixtures and controls on the track, not from this adapter.
