WAC Lighting R4FRWL-927-BK – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the WAC R4FRW 4in wall wash trim come with the LED light engine, or do I order that separately?
The light engine comes with the R4FRW trim. It is an integrated LED module with a universal driver, and it mounts to the trim on springs so it can be pulled and replaced later without tearing out the housing. You still need a compatible 4 inch FQ housing and a hardwired 120, 240 or 277 volt feed.
2) Can I use a 4 inch LED wall wash trim in a covered patio or bathroom shower ceiling?
Yes. The R4FRW carries an ETL and cETL Wet location rating, so it is good for showers, covered exterior soffits and other wet-location ceilings. Keep the ambient temperature between -4F and 104F (-20C to 40C).
3) Will this WAC recessed trim work on my 0-10V dimming system?
It will. The R4FRW accepts 0-10V, ELV and TRIAC dimming, so it drops into a low-voltage control scheme or a standard forward/reverse-phase wall dimmer. The driver is universal voltage, 120 through 277, which is what lets it sit on a commercial 277V circuit as easily as a residential 120V one.
4) What is the difference between the trimmed and trimless versions of the R4FRW?
Both are ordered the same way otherwise, but the trimmed version has a visible flange that covers the drywall cut, while the trimless version is meant to be mudded into the ceiling for a flush, no-flange look. Trimless takes more drywall work on site; trimmed is the forgiving choice on a renovation where the ceiling opening is not perfect. Finish choices differ slightly between the two: trimmed is offered in Black, Dark Bronze, White and Haze/White, trimless in Black, Dark Bronze, White and Haze.
5) Does the WAC R4FRW meet California Title 24 and Energy Star requirements?
Yes. The R4FRW is Energy Star qualified and compliant with both Title 24 and Title 20, along with its ETL and cETL Wet listing. That combination is what gets it accepted on California jobs and on utility rebate paperwork.
6) Why pick a wall wash trim instead of a standard round downlight?
A wall wash trim throws an asymmetric beam that grazes a vertical surface evenly from floor to ceiling, instead of dropping a symmetric cone straight down. Use the R4FRW when you are lighting artwork, a feature wall or retail display and want the wall itself to read bright. For general room illumination or task light over a counter, a standard symmetric downlight trim is the better pick. The R4FRW adds 30 degrees of shielding for glare control, 45 degrees of vertical tilt and 360 degrees of horizontal rotation so you can aim the wash after the ceiling is closed.
7) What color temperatures does the WAC R4FRW wall wash trim come in?
Five choices: 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K, and a 3000-1800K warm-dim option that shifts toward candlelight as you dim it. All of them are 90 CRI, so color rendering stays consistent if you mix temperatures across different rooms in the same building. The warm-dim version is the one to specify in hospitality or residential spaces where owners expect incandescent behavior on the dimmer.
8) Is this trim durable enough for a high-traffic commercial ceiling, and how often will I be relamping?
Construction is two-piece die-cast aluminum rather than stamped steel or plastic, which holds the finish and the aiming geometry over time. Average rated life is 50,000 hours. For a property manager, the practical point is the spring-mounted light engine: when a unit does fail, it pulls from below and swaps without opening the ceiling.
9) Can I match the R4FRW to other 4 inch trims already installed in the building?
The R4FRW is part of WAC's FQ Recessed line in the 4 inch LED size, so it shares the family aperture and finish range with other FQ 4 inch trims. Finishes are Black, Dark Bronze, White and Haze, which is how you keep a wall wash aperture visually consistent with the downlights around it on the same ceiling.
