Metallics JNPW12 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size is the Metallics JNPW12 neoprene washer?
The JNPW12 is a 1/4 inch washer with a 1/32 inch thickness, molded in black neoprene. That 1/32 inch thickness keeps it thin enough to sit under a screw head or nut without changing the stack height much, while still giving a soft bearing surface.
2) Is a neoprene washer the right choice, or should I use a flat steel washer?
Neoprene, as used on the JNPW12, is a rubber washer. It compresses, so it is used to seal or cushion a joint and to stop vibration loosening under a fastener. It will not spread load the way a hardened steel flat washer does, and it is not a substitute for one in a structural or high-torque connection. If the job is load distribution under a bolt head, use a steel flat washer; if it is sealing or isolating, neoprene is the correct material.
3) Are Metallics JNPW12 washers meant for electrical work?
Yes. Metallics catalogs the JNPW12 as electrical fastener stock, and black neoprene washers in this size are typically used under screws on enclosures, covers, and strut or channel mounting where a soft gasket or vibration cushion is wanted at the fastener.
