Metallics JALW9 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size bolt or thread does the Metallics JALW9 split lock washer fit?
The JALW9 is a 3/8 inch split lock washer, so it goes on 3/8 inch bolts, screws, and threaded rod. Order by part number JALW9.
2) Is the JALW9 lock washer aluminum or steel?
Aluminum. That matters on a job where you are bolting to aluminum raceway, aluminum conduit bodies, or aluminum ground busbar and you want to avoid pairing dissimilar metals at the connection. If you need the strength or higher clamp load of a steel split washer, aluminum is not the right pick.
3) How many 3/8 split lock washers come in a jar of Metallics JALW9?
100 washers per jar, supplied in Metallics' jar pack. It is a bench-stock quantity, so it suits a service van or a shop drawer rather than a single repair.
4) Can I use the JALW9 instead of a flat washer to spread load on sheet metal?
No. A split lock washer only provides anti-loosening tension; it has a narrow bearing surface and will dig in rather than distribute load. For spreading clamp load across thin sheet metal or an oversized hole you want a 3/8 flat washer, and you can stack the flat washer under the JALW9 if you need both functions.
5) Is the Metallics JALW9 suitable for outdoor or wet-location electrical hardware?
Aluminum resists corrosion better than plain uncoated steel, which is why aluminum washers show up on aluminum enclosures and outdoor raceway. Keep it with aluminum or compatible hardware; pairing aluminum against copper at a damp connection invites galvanic corrosion regardless of the washer.
