Metallics JSWHH77 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size bolt does the Metallics JSWHH77 flat washer fit?
The JSWHH77 is a 5/8 inch SAE flat washer, so it is sized for 5/8 inch bolts, anchors, and threaded rod. SAE pattern means a smaller outside diameter and smaller hole than a USS washer of the same bolt size, so it bears closer to the bolt head and is the one to use where the hole is clean and tight. If you are washering oversized or sloppy holes, a USS 5/8 washer is the better pick.
2) What does extra heavy duty mean on a 5/8 flat washer like the JSWHH77?
Extra heavy duty refers to the washer's thickness, not its diameter. A thicker washer resists cupping and digging in when you torque down hard, which is why it gets specified under strut, beam clamps, hanger rod, and anchor nuts rather than a standard thin stamped washer. The JSWHH77 is the extra heavy duty 5/8 SAE pattern.
3) How does the Metallics JSWHH77 washer come packaged for a service truck?
It ships as a jar of 50. The jar pack is what electricians and MRO stockrooms keep on the truck or on the shelf for 5/8 rod and anchor work, since it stays sorted instead of loose in a bin. If you are standardizing a stockroom, one jar covers 50 connections.
4) Can I use the JSWHH77 5/8 washer with 5/8 threaded rod hanging conduit or trapeze?
Yes. A 5/8 SAE flat washer is the right companion for 5/8 all-thread, and the extra heavy duty thickness is what you want between a nut and a strut channel or angle so the nut does not pull through or distort the seat. For trapeze work it goes on both sides of the channel with the nut.
5) Should I use an SAE washer or a USS washer for 5/8 anchor bolts?
Pick by hole size and bearing area. The JSWHH77 is the SAE pattern, with a tighter hole and smaller outside diameter, which keeps the load close to the fastener and suits drilled steel and clean holes. USS runs a larger OD and a looser hole, so it spans oversized or slotted holes and spreads load on softer material. For 5/8 wedge anchors in concrete with a tight hole, SAE is the normal call.
6) What is the exact part number to order for the Metallics 5/8 extra heavy duty SAE flat washer?
Order Metallics JSWHH77. That is the manufacturer part number for the 5/8 inch SAE flat washer, extra heavy duty, in the 50 piece jar. There is one configuration, so there is nothing further to specify on the order.
