Metallics JG5WW88 Washer 7/16 G5 USS Flat Wshr St-Zn (Jar 100)

The JG5WW88 is a 7/16 inch USS pattern flat washer, so it is sized for 7/16 inch bolts and threaded rod. USS pattern means the wider outside diameter and larger hole of the two common flat washer standards, which is what you want when you need more bearing surface under a nut or bolt head on steel, strut, or wood framing. If you are working with 7/16 inch hardware in tighter clearance, an SAE pattern washer is the narrower alternative.

It is steel with a zinc plating, which is the standard finish for interior and protected electrical and mechanical work: panel and enclosure mounting, strut hardware, hanger rod, and general anchoring. Zinc plating is not a substitute for hot dip galvanized or stainless in wet, exterior, or corrosive environments, so for rooftop, wash-down, or coastal work specify a galvanized or stainless washer instead.

The JG5WW88 is a Grade 5 washer, meaning it is a hardened steel flat washer rather than a soft commercial-grade one. Use it under Grade 5 or higher bolts and nuts, where the clamping load would dish or cup an unhardened washer. For light-duty sheet metal or trim work a plain commercial flat washer is adequate and cheaper.
