Metallics MSCW38 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is a square channel washer the right thing to use with strut channel, or should I use a flat washer?
A square channel washer like the Metallics MSCW38 is the part made for strut. It is square so it seats across the inturned lips of the channel and spreads the clamping load onto both edges, which a round flat washer cannot do. Use a flat washer only where the bolt bears on solid plate or a drilled hole, not on open channel.
2) Will the MSCW38 channel washers hold up in a damp mechanical room or unheated space?
These are steel with a zinc plated finish, which handles indoor and normally dry or occasionally damp locations. For continuous wet, exterior, or corrosive service, zinc plated steel is not the right call and you want stainless or hot dip galvanized hardware instead.
3) How many Metallics MSCW38 washers come in a jar?
They are packaged 100 to a jar, so one jar covers a full day of strut hangers or trapeze supports without rebuying. The jar packaging keeps them from scattering in a gang box or on a cart.
