The JLW168 is a #5 split lock washer, so it goes under the nut or screw head on #5 machine screws and bolts. It is a helical split ring, not a flat washer, so it bites into the fastener and the mating surface to resist loosening from vibration. Sold as model JLW168.
2) Are Metallics JLW168 lock washers zinc plated steel or stainless?
Steel with a zinc plating, not stainless. That makes them fine for dry interior electrical work, panel and enclosure assembly, strut and device mounting. For wet locations, exterior runs, or corrosive environments, specify a stainless split lock washer instead.
