Metallics JSWN74 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Are these washers metal or plastic?
Nylon, not metal. The JSWN74 is a molded nylon flat washer, so it insulates and will not corrode or gall against the surfaces it bears on. If you need load-bearing strength under high torque or heat, use a steel flat washer instead.
2) Will a nylon flat washer work for isolating dissimilar metals in an electrical enclosure?
That is the kind of job it suits. The JSWN74 is listed for metal-to-metal applications, and being nylon rather than steel it puts a non-conductive, non-corroding layer between the fastener head and the panel. Common uses are isolating a 5/16 bolt from a metal enclosure, strut, or bracket and keeping paint and sheet metal from scoring.
3) How many washers come in a jar of Metallics JSWN74?
Fifty washers per jar. They ship in a screw-top jar rather than a loose bag, which keeps a van or shop bin organized for a part this small. Total weight is 0.07 lbs.
4) What is the Metallics part number for the 5/16 nylon flat washer so I can match it on a reorder?
The manufacturer part number is JSWN74, Metallics brand, the 5/16 flat nylon washer in a 50-count jar. Country of origin is listed as multiple.
