Metallics JLWX3 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What screw size does the Metallics JLWX3 external tooth lock washer fit?
The JLWX3 is a #6 external tooth lock washer, so it pairs with #6 machine screws and sheet metal screws. Ordering for #8 or #10 hardware means a different washer size, not this one.
2) Should I use an external tooth lock washer or an internal tooth type for grounding a device to a metal box?
External tooth washers put the teeth out at the rim, so they bite over a wider circle and cut through zinc plating or paint to make metal-to-metal contact under the screw head. That is why the JLWX3 gets used on electrical device and box work rather than an internal tooth washer, whose teeth sit under the screw head and bite a smaller ring. Internal tooth is the choice when you want the teeth hidden for appearance; external tooth is the choice when you want grip and contact area.
3) Is the Metallics JLWX3 washer plated for corrosion resistance?
Yes. These #6 external tooth lock washers are zinc plated steel. That plating suits dry interior work such as panel, box, and device mounting. For sustained wet or corrosive exposure, a stainless washer is the better call.
4) How many #6 external tooth lock washers come in a jar of Metallics JLWX3?
One hundred washers per jar. The jar pack is the shop or van quantity, so buy by the jar for restocking a truck or MRO crib rather than per piece.
5) Are these Metallics lock washers only for electrical work, or can plumbing and HVAC crews use them too?
Metallics lists this washer for electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning work. Any of those trades can use it as a #6 anti-loosening washer under screw heads on sheet metal, enclosures, or equipment covers.
6) What exact part number do I order for Metallics #6 external tooth zinc lock washers by the jar?
Order Metallics JLWX3. That MPN is the #6 external tooth lock washer in zinc plated steel, jar of 100. The J prefix on Metallics numbers is the jar pack.
7) What are the jar dimensions and weight for the Metallics JLWX3 washers?
The pack measures 3 x 3 x 2.15 inches and weighs 0.07 lbs as listed, so a jar drops into a bin or a pouch pocket without taking a shelf slot.
