Metallics JMSW06 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What bolt size do the Metallics JMSW06 flat washers fit?
They're metric flat washers sized for M6 bolts and screws. If you're running imperial hardware, an M6 washer is not a substitute for a 1/4 inch washer, so match the washer to the thread you're actually using.
2) Are these M6 washers zinc plated for use in damp or outdoor locations?
The JMSW06 is steel with a zinc finish. Zinc plating handles indoor and normally dry or occasionally damp conditions; for continuous wet exposure or corrosive environments, stainless is the better pick.
3) How many M6 washers come in a jar of Metallics JMSW06?
One hundred washers per jar, packed in a jar rather than a bag or box, which is the handier format for a van shelf or a bench bin where you're grabbing a few at a time. Jar weight is 0.25 lbs.
4) What are M6 flat washers used for on electrical and mechanical installs?
Flat washers spread the clamping load of an M6 bolt or screw head over a wider area, which keeps the fastener from pulling through sheet metal or chewing up a soft surface. Metallics lists the JMSW06 for the electrical, plumbing, and heating and air conditioning trades, so typical use is strut and channel hardware, enclosure and panel mounting, hanger assemblies, and equipment anchoring.
5) Is the JMSW06 a flat washer or a lock washer?
Flat, not a lock washer. It distributes load under the bolt head or nut but gives you no vibration resistance on its own. On equipment that vibrates, pair it with a split lock washer or a locking nut and use the flat washer against the mounting surface.
6) What is the part number and country of origin on these Metallics M6 washers?
The manufacturer part number is JMSW06, from Metallics. Country of origin is listed as multiple, meaning Metallics sources the item from more than one country, so the origin on a given jar can vary.
