Watco 500-TQ-PVC-CP Chrome Trip Waste with PVC Tubular Drain

The Watco 500-TQ-PVC-CP is a chrome-finished trip waste assembly built with a PVC tubular drain body, designed for behind-the-wall rough-in installation on bathtub drain-and-overflow systems. This trip waste connects the tub drain to the trap and is intended for plumbers and contractors installing or replacing tubular bath waste assemblies where a durable PVC tube body and a chrome-plated finish on the visible components are required. As a rough-in trade part, the 500-TQ-PVC-CP is installed inside the wall cavity and beneath the tub, mating to standard tubular drain-waste-overflow piping during new construction or renovation work.

Key Features

  • Durable Construction: PVC tubular drain body for corrosion resistance in wet, behind-the-wall drain applications.
  • Finish: Chrome-plated (CP) finish on exposed components for a clean, uniform appearance at the visible drain and overflow points.
  • Trip Waste Design: Configured as a trip-style bath waste assembly (TQ) for connecting the tub drain and overflow to the trap.
  • Tubular Fit: Sized to mate with standard tubular bath waste-and-overflow piping for straightforward rough-in connection.
  • Watco 500 Series: Part of the Watco 500 trip waste platform for bathtub drain assemblies.

Watco 500-TQ-PVC-CP – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is a Watco 500 trip waste and where does it go on a tub?
The Watco 500-TQ-PVC-CP is a bathtub drain-and-overflow waste assembly that ties the tub drain and the overflow into the trap. It mounts behind the wall and under the tub, so it goes in during rough-in on new construction or when the old tubular bath waste comes out in a remodel. The trip-style (TQ) design means the stopper is actuated from the overflow plate rather than by a lift-and-turn or toe-touch drain plug.
2) Will the Watco 500-TQ-PVC-CP connect to my existing tubular bath waste piping?
It is sized to mate with standard tubular bath waste-and-overflow piping, which is what makes it a straight swap into an existing tubular DWV rough-in. If what is in your wall is cast iron or a non-tubular drain-waste-overflow setup, this is not the part for that opening.
3) If the drain tubing is PVC, what finish shows at the tub?
Chrome-plated. The PVC is the hidden tube body; the exposed components at the drain and overflow carry a chrome-plated (CP) finish, so the visible trim matches standard chrome tub and shower fittings.
4) Is a trip waste or a lift-and-turn drain the right choice for a tub I am rebuilding?
A trip waste like the Watco 500-TQ-PVC-CP operates the stopper from a lever on the overflow plate, with the closure mechanism inside the waste tube. That is the right pick when the tub already has a trip-lever overflow plate and you are replacing the assembly behind the wall. If the tub has a plain overflow plate with no lever and the stopper sits in the drain opening, you want a lift-and-turn or toe-touch drain instead, since those do not use the overflow linkage.
5) Does the Watco 500-TQ-PVC-CP work for a commercial or multi-family tub, or is it residential only?
Both. The 500-TQ-PVC-CP is specified for residential and commercial bath waste replacement as well as new construction tub plumbing, which is why property managers and GCs use it to standardize tub drain assemblies across a building's units.
6) How many versions of the Watco 500-TQ-PVC-CP do I need to pick from when ordering?
One. It is a single configuration, part number 500-TQ-PVC-CP, with the PVC tube body and chrome-plated trim already set. There is no finish or material option to specify on the order.
