If your existing door is bored on standard 5-1/2 inch centers with 2-1/8 inch holes, it drops in. Tighter center spacing than 5-1/2 inches will not work.
2) Why does a dummy handleset need a hand specified?
The Carlow lever has to point away from the hinges, so the 7924 is built left hand and right hand and is ordered by hand. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your left it is a left hand, hinges on the right is a right hand. Both hands come in Oil Rubbed Bronze and Matte Black.
