Wiremold WIRE-2000 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Wiremold 2000 Series raceway ship as a complete base and cover, or do I order those separately?
The 2000 Series steel raceway is supplied as a base and cover system, so both halves of the channel come together. You mount the base to the wall, pull your conductors, then snap the cover on. Fittings, couplings and device boxes for the 2000 Series are separate items and need to be ordered alongside it to finish a run.
2) Is Wiremold 2000 raceway single-channel or does it separate power from data?
Single-channel. The 2000 Series gives you one open pathway, so power and low voltage would share the same compartment. If your job requires physical separation of power and communications cable, a single-channel raceway won't satisfy that, and you need a two-compartment or divided raceway instead.
3) Does Wiremold 2000 Series raceway qualify for a Buy American project?
Yes. The 2000 Series steel raceway is Buy American Act compliant, which is what federal, state and institutional specs usually call out on surface raceway. That makes it usable on government buildings, schools and healthcare work where BAA sourcing is a condition of the contract.
4) Will parts from other Wiremold 2000 Series components fit this raceway?
Yes, the base and cover is part of the 2000 Series family and is built to work with the other 2000 Series pieces, so you can extend a run with matching couplings, elbows, boxes and fittings from the same series. Fittings from a different Wiremold series are a different profile and won't mate to it.
5) Is steel raceway the right choice over plastic for a warehouse or shop floor?
Steel is the reason to pick the 2000 Series. In industrial spaces, warehouses and corridors where a cart or a ladder is going to hit the wall, a steel base and cover takes impact that nonmetallic raceway won't. Nonmetallic makes more sense in a finished office where appearance and easy field cutting matter more than impact resistance.
6) What finish does the Wiremold 2000 raceway come in, and can I paint it?
It comes in protective zinc, which is a bare functional finish rather than a decorative one. That works as-is in mechanical rooms, back-of-house and industrial areas. For exposed office or retail walls, zinc raceway is normally field painted to match the wall after it's installed.
7) Can I use Wiremold 2000 raceway to add outlets in an existing office without opening the walls?
That is the normal use for it. Surface raceway runs on the face of the wall, so a property manager or electrician adding circuits to an existing commercial office, classroom or retail space can extend power without cutting and patching drywall. The cover lifts off later when a cable has to be added or pulled out.
