1) What is the difference between the Wiremold RFBAB and RFBADEC device plates?
Both are steel device plates for Wiremold floor box service fittings, and the difference is the device opening. The RFBAB is the blank plate, with no cutout, used to close off an unused device position. The RFBADEC is the decorator plate, cut for a decorator style (rectangular) device such as a decorator receptacle or a data jack insert. Pick the blank when you are capping a position off and the decorator when a device is going in.
2) I need to cover an unused receptacle opening in a Wiremold fitting. Which part do I order?
Order the RFBAB. It is the blank version of the plate, no device cutout, so it closes off the position and keeps the fitting sealed and looking finished. If you later add a decorator receptacle or jack there, swap in the RFBADEC, which is cut for a decorator device.
3) Will the Wiremold decorator device plate accept a standard duplex receptacle?
No. The RFBADEC is cut for a decorator style device, which is the single rectangular opening used by decorator receptacles, GFCIs, and most data jack inserts. A standard duplex receptacle with two round-eared openings will not drop into a decorator cutout. Use a decorator-style receptacle, or a duplex-cut plate, for that device.
4) Will a Wiremold blank device plate rust in a concrete floor box or a damp mechanical room?
The plate is steel with a pre-galvanized finish, which is the corrosion protection you want for a below-grade floor box or a damp back-of-house space. Pre-galvanized means the zinc coating is applied to the steel before the part is formed, so cut edges are not coated the way a hot-dip part would be. It holds up in normal interior commercial environments; for continuously wet or chemically aggressive locations, specify a stainless or non-metallic plate instead.
5) Is the RFBAB plate the device plate only, or does it include the box and the device?
It is the plate by itself. The steel plate mounts a device into a Wiremold fitting or closes the opening off; the box or service fitting, the wiring device, and the cover are separate parts. Budget for those separately if you are building an opening up from scratch.
6) Does the gray Wiremold device plate match the rest of my raceway and floor fittings?
The plate finishes out gray, which is the standard neutral Wiremold uses across its raceway and device hardware, so it blends with existing gray raceway runs and fittings rather than standing out. If your building was standardized on ivory or brushed metal covers, this one will read as a different color on the wall or floor.
