WM - Schlage - F40 PLY 605 X 619 - Plymouth Knob, Split Finish, Privacy - Bright Brass x Satin Nickel

F40 is Schlage's residential privacy function. The knob locks from the inside with a push or turn button and has no keyway outside, just an emergency release, so it's used on bathrooms and bedrooms rather than entry doors. If you need a keyed exterior knob, F40 is the wrong function.

It's a split finish set: 605 bright brass on one side and 619 satin nickel on the other. Property managers use these where the corridor or exterior side has to match brass hardware while the room side matches nickel. Orient the knob so the brass face lands on the side you want it seen from, because once installed the finishes are fixed to their respective roses.

Yes. Schlage F series residential knobsets install in the standard residential bore, a 2-1/8 inch cross bore with a 1 inch edge bore, on the usual 2-3/8 inch backset for interior doors. That's the same prep most interior passage and privacy sets already sit in, so swapping a worn bath or bedroom knob is a direct replacement with no new drilling in most cases.

The Plymouth knob is a round knob and is non-handed, so one set works on either a left or right hand swing. The only orientation decision is which side of the door gets the bright brass face and which gets the satin nickel.

Yes, that's exactly what a privacy function is for. The inside button locks the door, and the outside side has an emergency release rather than a cylinder, so a small tool or pin releases the lock from the hallway. It is not a security lock and should not be used on an exterior or unit entry door.
