Yale Residential YR71ED-626-SC – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can I get the Yale Edge Edisto keyed lever to work on my existing Kwikset or Schlage keys?
Pick the keyway at order time. The Edisto keyed entry lever comes with either a KW-1 5-pin cylinder or an SC-1 5-pin cylinder, so you can match whichever key system is already on the property. KW-1 is the Kwikset keyway and SC-1 is the Schlage keyway. Matching the keyway alone doesn't key it to your existing keys, though, so if you need the lock to run on a key you already have, use the keying option and supply the key code in the optional key code field.
2) If I'm putting these on several units, can they all be keyed alike?
Yes. Keying is a required selection on the Edisto lever: choose KD for keyed different, so every lock has its own key, or KA for keyed alike, so one key runs the whole group. KA is what property managers use across a single unit's exterior and utility doors. There's also an optional key code field if the set has to match an existing code.
3) Do I need to order a left hand or right hand version of the Edisto lever?
No handing to specify. The Edisto levers are non-handed, so one part covers both left and right hand doors. That's the main reason property managers and builders stock this one in volume, one SKU per finish instead of two.
4) Is the Yale Edge Edisto lever tough enough for a commercial corridor or apartment building common door?
It's a Grade 3 residential lockset, built for single family homes, town homes, condos and garden homes. For a commercial corridor, a leasing office, or any high traffic common door, step up to Grade 1 or Grade 2. The Hager 2525 is a Grade 2 commercial cylindrical entry lever, and the Corbin Russwin CL33903 covers Grade 1 needs. Use the Edisto inside the units, not on the shared openings.
5) The door does not need a key - what is the non-keyed version to order instead of the Edisto keyed entry lever?
The YR71ED Edisto is a keyed single-cylinder entrance lever, so for a hall or closet door you want a passage function lever instead. The Kwikset 200BRNL RDT Breton is a Grade 3 passage lever set with a 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch door thickness range, and the Callan Asheville is a Grade 3 passage leverset in satin nickel. For a bed or bath door needing a thumbturn rather than a key, the Kwikset 300BRNL RDT Breton is a Grade 3 privacy lever set.
6) For an entry door I also want a deadbolt - is there an alternative to the Edisto lever that includes one?
Yes. The Callan Bennett is a Grade 3 entrance leverset supplied as a leverset and deadbolt combination, so a single order covers both the latch and the auxiliary bolt. The YR71ED Edisto is a single-cylinder keyed entrance leverset on its own, with lever, rose, chassis, strike plate, latch, screws and two keys in the box.
7) What is a comparable Grade 3 keyed entry lever to the Yale Edge YR71ED Edisto?
The Callan Artino leverset is the closest peer: it is also a Grade 3 entrance-function leverset, matching the YR71ED Edisto's Grade 3 rating and entrance function. Both are keyed entry levers for residential openings. The Cal-Royal AUS00 is another Grade 3 option, catalogued as an entrance/office function lever with a solid brass forged body and a 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch door thickness range.
8) I need a heavier-duty keyed entry lever than the Yale Edge Edisto for a commercial corridor. What should I use?
Step up to a Grade 2 commercial entry lever. The Hager 2525 is a Grade 2 commercial cylindrical entry lock with a lever handle and a 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch door thickness range. The Falcon B511CP6D is a Grade 2 medium-duty cylindrical lever with entry/office function. The YR71ED Edisto is built to Grade 3 standards and is designated for residential use, so for higher-traffic commercial openings those Grade 2 units are the better fit.
9) What matches the Edisto lever if I need a classroom or storeroom function on the same corridor?
The Edisto is entrance function only, so for a keyed-outside-always-locked opening use the Cal-Royal AG05, a Grade 2 storeroom leverset with a deadlocking latchbolt and a 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch door thickness range, or the Hager 2580 Grade 2 storeroom lever with Withnell trim. For classroom function, the Cal-Royal AG03 is a Grade 2 classroom lever with a 6-pin Schlage C keyway and 2-3/4 inch backset.
10) I need a fire-rated lever on a labeled door - can I use the Edisto?
For a labeled opening, specify a peer that carries a fire rating. The Corbin Russwin CL3110 is a Grade 1 vandal resistant cylindrical lever in passage function with a fire rating and a 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch door range, and the Falcon K101 is a Grade 1 heavy duty passage lever with a fire rating covering 1-3/8 inch to 2-1/4 inch doors. Both are passage function, so where key control is also required on a labeled door, review a keyed Grade 1 or Grade 2 alternative with your AHJ.
11) What comes in the box with the Edisto keyed entry lever, and do I need anything else?
Everything for a standard install is in the carton: two levers, two roses, the interior chassis, the exterior chassis, the latch, a strike plate, four screws, and two keys. Yale states it installs with one tool. You'd only be buying extra if the door isn't already bored for a cylindrical lock or if you want a matching deadbolt on the same opening.
12) Can this Yale lever be re-keyed later without sending it out?
Yes. The cylinder is removable, so the Edisto can be re-keyed without special tools, which is what you want on a rental turn. It's a 5-pin cylinder in either KW-1 or SC-1.
13) What kind of door prep does the Edisto lever need?
It's a cylindrical, bored lockset, so it goes into a standard round cross-bore with an edge bore for the latch, the same prep a knob or lever set already in the door would use. No mortise pocket required. The trim is a round rose. If the existing door is prepped for a cylindrical lock, this drops into it.
14) Can I use a Baldwin Estate 5103 lever in place of the Yale Edge Edisto keyed entry lever?
Not as a direct function match. The Baldwin Estate 5103 with 5048 rose is offered in passage, privacy, and half dummy configurations, none of which are keyed. The YR71ED Edisto is a keyed single-cylinder entrance lever, so the 5103 would leave the opening without key control. Use the 5103 family where you want matching non-locking trim on adjacent doors.
15) I want keyless entry instead of a keyed lever - what replaces the Edisto?
Two keypad leversets cover that. The Delaney LP250 is an electronic keypad leverlock rated Grade 2, and the Lockey 1150 is a heavy duty mechanical keypad lever set with double combination in passage function, fitting doors 1-1/8 inch to 2 inch thick. The YR71ED Edisto instead uses a removable cylinder in KW-1 or SC-1 5-pin keyways, which suits properties already standardized on a key system.
16) Is the Accentra 107S Schlage cylinder adapter kit needed with the Yale Edge Edisto lever?
No. The Accentra 107S is a Schlage cylinder adapter kit for Yale hardware. The Edisto is already ordered with either a KW-1 or an SC-1 5-pin cylinder, so if you keep to Schlage SC-1 keyways you simply choose that variant rather than adapting a cylinder, and the removable cylinder can be re-keyed without special tools.
17) Do I need a handed lever like the Baldwin half dummy, or is the Edisto reversible?
The Edisto uses non-handed levers, which cuts inventory and avoids ordering mistakes on a multi-door job. By contrast the Baldwin Estate 5103 half dummy is sold as separate left hand and right hand items, so handing has to be confirmed per opening before ordering.
18) For a thicker 2 inch door, what entry lever works where the Edisto may not?
Several peers publish ranges that extend to 2 inches: the Deltana 6201 Manchester, 6411 Morant, and 6431 Linstead entry levers all cover 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch doors, and the Hager 2525 Grade 2 commercial entry lock covers 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch. Those are the safer specification on a thicker slab than a residential Grade 3 lever like the Edisto.
19) What is the difference between the Edisto keyed entry lever and the Cal-Royal AG00 entrance lever?
Both are keyed entrance levers, but they are specified differently. The Cal-Royal AG00 is an entrance lever with a 6-pin Schlage C keyway keyed different, a 2-3/8 inch backset, and a 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch door thickness range. The Edisto is built to Grade 3 standards with a 5-pin removable cylinder ordered in KW-1 or SC-1, keyed different or keyed alike, in oil rubbed bronze, satin nickel, or satin chrome.
20) What finishes does the Edisto round rose lever come in?
Three: 10BP oil rubbed bronze permanent, 619 satin nickel, and 626 satin chrome. All three are offered with either the KW-1 or the SC-1 cylinder, so finish and keyway are independent choices.
21) What dummy lever pairs with an Edisto keyed entry lever on a closet or pantry door?
The Edisto is a keyed entrance leverset and is not offered as a dummy, so pick a dummy separately. The Callan Bentley is a Grade 2 dummy lever, the BEST 7KC single dummy trim is a Grade 2 non-keyed medium duty lever, and the BEST 9K 1DT single dummy trim is a Grade 1 non-keyed heavy duty lever. Trim styling will not match the Edisto round rose, so use these where an exact visual match is not required.
