1) Will the Yale Assure Lock 2 YRD430 fit my door thickness?
The YRD430 keypad deadbolt is specified for doors 1-3/4" to 2-1/4" thick, which covers a standard 1-3/4" residential entry door and thicker solid or double-panel doors. It mounts with a screwdriver on a standard deadbolt prep, so no new boring is needed on a door already carrying a tubular deadbolt.
2) Does the Yale YRD430 have a keyhole, and how do I get in if the batteries die?
No keyway at all. The YRD430 is the key free version, so there is nothing to pick, bump or lend out. Entry is by backlit touchscreen keypad code, the Yale Access app, Apple Watch, Auto-Unlock as you approach, or a voice assistant (Alexa, Google, Siri). It runs on batteries, so a power outage does not lock you out, and if the batteries are flat you can jump it with a 9V to power the keypad long enough to enter your code.
3) Do I need a separate hub or bridge to control the Yale Assure Lock 2 YRD430 remotely?
No bridge needed. Wi-Fi is built into the YRD430 along with Bluetooth, so you can lock, unlock, share codes and see the activity feed from anywhere through the Yale Access app. One caveat for Apple users: controlling it through Apple Home from outside the house still requires an Apple TV, iPad or HomePod acting as a home hub, the same as any HomeKit accessory.
4) Is this Yale keypad deadbolt approved for a commercial building or apartment corridor door?
It is a residential product. The YRD430 is built for single-family and home entry doors, and it carries no commercial grade designation. For commercial openings look at a graded mechanical or electronic deadbolt instead, such as the Corbin Russwin DL3011 Grade 1 cylindrical deadlock (1-3/4" to 2-1/4" doors) or, if you want electronic credentials in a multi-housing setting, the Dormakaba Nova-D RFID multihousing electronic deadbolt.
5) Does the Yale Assure Lock 2 relock the door by itself?
It can, and that is what DoorSense does. The included DoorSense sensor tells the lock whether the door is actually closed rather than just pushed to, so Auto-Lock fires only on a genuinely shut door instead of throwing the bolt into the jamb. Paired with Auto-Unlock, the door opens as you walk up and relocks behind you without touching the keypad.
6) What strike does the Yale YRD430 deadbolt use, and will it line up with my existing jamb cutout?
The supplied strike is a 1" x 2-1/4" plate, which is the common residential deadbolt strike footprint. If your jamb is already mortised for a standard tubular deadbolt strike of that size, the swap is a drop-in. A jamb cut for an oversize or security strike plate will leave exposed wood around the new plate.
7) I manage rental units and want to stop rekeying between tenants. Is a key free smart deadbolt like this the right move, or should I stay mechanical?
Going key free removes the rekey entirely. The YRD430 has no cylinder, so turnover is handled by deleting and issuing codes in the Yale Access app, and the activity feed shows who entered and when, which is useful for contractors and cleaners. The trade-off is batteries and app administration on every unit. If you would rather keep a mechanical keyed system and just standardize hardware, a Grade 2 cylinder x thumbturn deadbolt like the Cal-Royal CB160 or the Dexter DB2000 single cylinder is the conventional route.
8) What finishes does the Yale YRD430 Assure Lock 2 come in?
Three: Satin Nickel (619), Oil Rubbed Bronze Permanent (10BP) and Black Suede Powder Coat (BSP). The 10BP finish is the permanent, non-living version, so it will not patina to match an older living-finish oil rubbed bronze knob or handleset already on the door.
