Zero International 34P-BK-PSA-75 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the Zero International 34P pile seal be cut to length for different door widths?
Cut it as you go. The 34P ships as a 75 foot continuous roll, so one roll covers a run of openings and you trim each piece to the width of the door or shoe you are sealing rather than ordering a fixed length per door. That is the practical reason maintenance crews buy the roll instead of pre-cut sweeps: mixed door widths in one building come off the same roll.
2) Does the 34P brush seal need screws, or does it stick on?
It sticks on. The 34P has a pressure sensitive adhesive backing, so it applies directly to a clean door or frame surface with no drilling and no fasteners. Nothing else is required to mount it, which is what makes it workable for a tech doing several doors in one trip. If your opening needs a mechanically fastened sweep or a shoe with a fastening flange, the PSA version is not the one to order.
3) What does a pile brush seal actually stop compared with a solid rubber sweep?
Pile is the choice where the seal has to sweep across a surface repeatedly without dragging. The 34P's dense pile construction blocks drafts, dust, light and sound at the base of a door. A solid vinyl or neoprene sweep gives a tighter weather seal but more friction and wear on a high traffic opening, so pile is the usual answer on interior and moderate traffic commercial doors, sound and light control being the common driver.
4) Can I use the 34P brush seal on a door shoe as well as a door bottom?
Both. The 34P works as the sealing insert on a door bottom sweep or as the pile in a door shoe assembly, and it is a weatherseal component rather than a complete sweep unit. If you are replacing worn pile in an existing shoe, that is exactly what the roll is for; if you have no sweep or shoe on the door at all, the PSA backing lets you apply the pile straight to the door face instead.
5) Is the Zero 34P rated for commercial buildings or is it a residential product?
Commercial. Zero International builds the 34P for commercial door assemblies, and it is used in offices, schools, healthcare facilities, retail, industrial and warehouse buildings, multi tenant residential and government buildings. For a property manager standardizing across a portfolio, that means the same roll works for the apartment corridor doors and the mechanical room doors.
6) What color is the 34P pile seal, and will it show on a dark door?
Black. The 34P is supplied with black pile, which disappears against dark anodized, bronze and painted dark frames and reads as a shadow line under most commercial doors. On a light or clear anodized aluminum opening it will be visible as a dark band at the bottom, so specify accordingly if appearance is being judged.
