Zero International 626A 36 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Zero 626A threshold work for a wheelchair-accessible opening?
Yes. The 626A is an ADA accessible threshold, and at 1/2 inch high it sits at the maximum height code allows for an accessible opening without a bevel exceeding what a chair can roll over. That 1/2 inch is the finished height above the floor, so on a slab pour or a finish floor build-up you need to account for it in your undercut at the door bottom.
2) Does the Zero 626A threshold have a thermal break, and does that matter on an exterior door?
It has one PVC thermal break running the length of the extrusion. That matters on any exterior opening where you have conditioned space on one side and outdoor air on the other: without a break, the aluminum conducts cold straight through and the threshold sweats or frosts on the inside edge. Loading dock doors, cafeteria service doors and school exteriors are where you see that condensation problem, and the break is what stops it.
3) Can I anchor the Zero 626A directly into a concrete slab?
Yes, and that's what the heavy gauge is for. The extrusion runs 0.135 inch wall thickness, which is enough material to drill and screw straight into concrete without the buckling or screws working loose that you get with lighter commercial threshold stock. On a high-traffic opening with carts or pallet jacks crossing it, that wall thickness is the spec that decides whether the threshold stays flat.
4) Can I use the Zero 626A threshold on a fire rated door opening?
Yes. The 626A carries a UL10c fire rating, so it can go under a rated door assembly. That's the rating a hospital corridor, school exit or stairwell door needs, and it's the one thing that will get a threshold rejected on a walkthrough if the part underneath the rated door isn't listed.
5) Is the Zero 626A threshold slip resistant for a wet or greasy floor?
The 626A carries an aluminum composite filler containing aluminum oxide and silicone carbide, which is an abrasive traction surface rather than a plain milled ridge pattern. That's the reason it shows up in cafeterias, hospitals and manufacturing buildings, where the floor at the door gets wet or has grease tracked across it. The abrasive is embedded in the filler, not a coating, so it doesn't wear off the way a painted-on grit strip does.
6) How wide is the Zero 626A threshold, and will it cover my frame and floor joint?
The 626A is a 6 inch wide threshold. That width lets it span the frame throat plus the floor transition on both sides, which is what you want where a sealed concrete floor meets an exterior slab and you're covering a joint. If your opening only needs to cover the frame face itself, a 6 inch body is wider than necessary and you'll be drilling anchors well into open floor on the interior side.
7) Is the Zero 626A a commercial threshold or will it work on a residential exterior door?
It's a commercial threshold. The 6 inch width, 0.135 inch wall and abrasive filler are built for supply rooms, manufacturing floors, schools and hospitals where the opening sees carts and constant foot traffic. On a house door it's overkill and, more practically, a 6 inch body is often too wide for residential rough-in where the sill and the frame sit much closer together.
8) I need a threshold that interlocks with the door bottom rather than a flat saddle. Is the 626A that?
No. The 626A is a flat utility saddle threshold with a thermal break; the door sweeps or bottoms over it, it doesn't hook into anything. If you need an interlocking arrangement where a hook on the door bottom engages the threshold, look at the Pemko 61 Series interlocking J hook threshold accessory instead, which is a steel piece made for exactly that hooked configuration. The two solve different problems, so pick based on whether your door bottom is already prepped for a J hook.
9) What finish does the Zero 626A threshold come in?
Aluminum mill finish only. That's the raw extruded aluminum surface, which greys out over time under traffic and is what most commercial and industrial openings get specified in. If your job calls for a dark bronze or anodized threshold to match existing openings, mill finish won't match it, so plan for that at the spec stage rather than trying to finish it in the field.
10) Does the Zero 626A come with anchors or fasteners for installation?
The 626A is supplied as the aluminum threshold extrusion itself. Plan on sourcing your own concrete anchors sized for the substrate you're fastening into, since a slab, a topping pour and a wood sill all want different fasteners. The 0.135 inch body takes countersunk screws without deforming, which is why it holds in concrete where thinner stock does not.
