1) Where does the Zero 870AA perimeter gasketing mount, and does the frame need to be prepped for it?
The 870AA mounts to the frame stop, and where a frame has no stop it can be applied as the stop itself. It is surface applied, so there is no kerf to cut and no frame prep beyond fastening the housing. Allow for a housing 1 inch wide and .561 inch high when you check the stop face, since a shallow or narrow applied stop is the one condition that gives trouble.
2) I need to seal a door all the way around. Does the Zero 870AA gasketing cover the bottom of the door too?
No. The 870AA is a head and jamb set, so it seals the two jambs and the head and nothing else. The bottom of the door takes its own part, a door bottom sweep or an automatic door bottom, sized to the door width and ordered separately. If sound or smoke is the reason you are gasketing, order both at once; the gap under the door is the largest opening left once the perimeter is sealed.
3) Can the Zero 870AA adjustable gasketing be used on a fire rated or smoke rated opening?
Fire seal rated and smoke seal rated, and it carries a sound seal rating as well. That combination is why the 870AA turns up on cross corridor and stair openings, where the same door has to hold smoke and cut noise. Construction is an extruded aluminum housing with a solid neoprene insert.
4) Will the Zero 870 adjustable gasketing actually cut sound transfer on an office or conference room door?
Sound seal rated, and the adjustment is what gets it there. An adjusting screw drives the solid neoprene insert in or out after the door is hung, so you take up compression on a door that does not sit tight against the stop instead of living with the gap. Zero calls the mechanism Compress-O-Matic. On an older opening that has settled, that screw is the difference between a seal that touches and one that only looks like it does.
5) Should I use adjustable perimeter gasketing like the Zero 870 or a fixed seal?
Go adjustable when the door does not close consistently against the stop, or when sound is the reason you are sealing at all. The 870AA sets its compression with a screw after the door hangs, and it can be re-tensioned later as the opening moves. A fixed perimeter seal has its compression built in at install and cannot be dialed in afterward. Fixed is fine on a true new frame that only needs light dust or draft sealing. Adjustable is the one to specify on sound rated openings and on older frames.
6) How much of the Zero 870AA gasketing do I need for one door opening?
One set does one opening. The 870AA ships as a head and jamb set of three pieces, one for the head and two for the jambs, so there is no separate head piece to add to the order. Count one set per single door opening when you are pricing out a floor or a corridor run.
7) What finish is the Zero 870AA gasketing, and will it match the aluminum frames already in the building?
Clear anodized aluminum. The housing is extruded aluminum in a clear anodized finish, the same mill look as clear anodized frames and clear anodized perimeter seals on adjacent openings, so it blends on a building already standardized on that finish. The sealing element itself is solid neoprene.
8) Is the Zero 870 adjustable gasketing set a commercial product or something for a house door?
Commercial. The 870AA is specified for commercial openings, and the build follows from that: extruded aluminum housing, screw adjustment, solid neoprene seal, with fire, smoke, and sound seal ratings.
