1) Will the Red Dot BC-5 conduit body work with rigid or IMC conduit, or is it EMT only?
EMT only. The BC-5 is a Series B body built for use with EMT conduit, so the ends are set-screw style for EMT rather than threaded hubs. If you are running threaded rigid or IMC at 1-1/2 inch, you need a threaded conduit body instead, not this one.
2) What does the C in the Red Dot BC-5 C conduit body mean, and when would I use it instead of an LB or T?
C bodies are straight-through pull points: both openings are in line with the run, with the removable cover on the side. Use a C where you just need access to pull or splice conductors in a long straight run. If you have to turn the run, that is an LB, LL or LR; if you are joining three runs, that is a T. The BC-5 handles 1-1/2 inch EMT.
