Allied Tube & Conduit RCK150KON – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the RCK150KON coupling require threaded conduit ends?
No. The Allied Tube & Conduit RCK150KON is a threadless compression coupling for 1-1/2 inch rigid conduit, so it joins cut, unthreaded ends. That is what makes it useful for field cuts and repairs where you cannot get a die on the pipe or cannot rotate a section to thread it in.
2) Can this compression coupling be used in a concrete pour?
Yes. The RCK150KON carries a neoprene gasket that provides a concrete tight seal, so it can be used on runs being encased in slab or deck pours without wet concrete working into the raceway.
3) What size rigid conduit does the RCK150KON fit?
It is sized for 1-1/2 inch rigid conduit. Trade size 1-1/2 only, so a 1-1/4 or 2 inch run needs the matching coupling in that size instead.
4) Why use a compression coupling instead of a standard threaded rigid coupling?
A threaded coupling needs both conduit ends threaded and at least one section free to turn. In an existing run, a tight ceiling, or a field cut, neither is practical. The RCK150KON clamps onto plain-cut 1-1/2 inch rigid ends and pulls up with its compression nuts, which is why it is specified where conduit runs are closely spaced and there is no room to spin pipe.
5) Will this coupling hold up in a damp or corrosive location?
The body is zinc plated to resist corrosion, which suits normal indoor and concrete-encased work. It is a plated steel fitting, not a stainless or PVC-coated one, so for aggressive chemical exposure or direct marine atmosphere you would want a coated or non-ferrous fitting instead.
6) Is this an electrical raceway fitting or a plumbing coupling?
It is an electrical fitting. The RCK150KON couples 1-1/2 inch rigid metal conduit carrying conductors; it is not a pressure-rated pipe coupling and should not be used on water or gas lines.
