Yes. The Allied Tube & Conduit CKR-125KON is a raintight compression coupling rated for wet locations, so it can be used on exposed exterior EMT runs. It is also concrete tight, which means it can be poured into a slab or wall without grout working into the raceway.
2) Do I need a threaded fitting or does this coupling work without threading the conduit?
No threading required. This is a compression type coupling, so the cut end of the EMT slides in and the nut is tightened down over a compression ring to make the mechanical and electrical connection. That is what makes it the fitting of choice for field work where you cannot cut threads. If your run is rigid or IMC with threaded ends, you want a threaded coupling instead, not this one.
3) Is this coupling steel or die cast zinc?
The CKR-125KON is built with heavy steel walls. For MRO and institutional work where the raceway takes physical abuse, or in exposed exterior runs, steel body couplings hold up to impact better than thin die cast bodies.
4) Why does the Allied raintight coupling have a blue nut?
The blue nut is an identification feature. On a job where both standard and raintight compression couplings are in the same gang box, the colored nut lets an inspector or another electrician see at a glance that the wet location fitting was used. Functionally it is the same connection, the color is there so the right fitting ends up in the right place.
