1) What sizes does the Spears PVC true union Y-strainer come in?
Two sizes are offered: 1/2 inch (part YS2AP8-005CL) and 1-1/2 inch (part YS2AP8-015CL). Both are socket end, so the size refers to the PVC pipe the socket accepts.
2) Are the ends threaded or do I have to solvent weld this Y-strainer in?
Socket ends, so it solvent welds to PVC pipe. You will need primer and PVC cement, and you cannot thread it in or back it out once glued. The true union nuts are what let you take the strainer body back out later, not the end connections.
3) Can I clean the screen without cutting the pipe?
That is the point of the true union design. Back off the union nuts and the strainer body comes out of the line for screen cleaning or replacement, with no cutting and no re-gluing of the pipe run. On a fixed-body strainer you would have to cut it out.
