2) What is the Red Dot ESL-3 actually used for on a concrete pour?
It is a 90 degree slab insert: it gets set in the deck before the pour so a 1 inch rigid or IMC conduit run turns up out of the slab at a finished, threaded opening instead of you trying to core and seal afterward. The elbow geometry is built in, which is why it is specified as a 90.
3) Is the Red Dot ESL-3 metal or plastic?
Die cast aluminum. That matters for a slab insert because it has to survive being walked on, rebar tied against it, and concrete poured over it without deforming.
