Metallics RTS14 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the Metallics RTS14 tarp strap, and what is it used for?
The RTS14 is a rubber tarp strap in the nominal 10 size, used to tie down tarps, covers and loose material on trucks, trailers, job boxes and equipment. Rubber gives it the stretch to hold tension as a load shifts, which is why crews use it instead of a rigid strap or bungee hook arrangement for covering material on an open bed.
2) What is the exact part number to order for the Metallics 10 inch rubber tarp strap?
Order it as Metallics RTS14. That is the manufacturer part number for the 10 size rubber tarp strap, and RTS14 is the only model on the line, so there are no finish or length options to pick between.
3) Is a rubber tarp strap the right choice, or should I use a ratchet strap?
Different jobs. A rubber strap like the RTS14 is for holding a tarp or cover down against flapping and wind, where you want constant light tension and quick hook-and-release at the end of the day. It is not load-securement hardware. If you are restraining the load itself on a truck or trailer, use a ratchet or web tie-down rated for that duty and keep the rubber straps for the cover over the top.
