1) What metal thickness can the Metallics JTEKD4 self-drilling screw drill through?
The #2 drill point on the JTEKD4 handles panel thicknesses of 0.035 to 0.110 inch. That covers typical sheet metal studs, strut, duct flange and enclosure sheet steel. Go thicker than 0.110 inch and the point will not drill cleanly, so step up to a larger drill point size for structural steel.
2) Does the JTEKD4 screw come with a sealing washer or just a metal washer?
It has an integral steel washer under the hex head, not a bonded rubber or EPDM sealing washer. Washer outside diameter is 0.384 to 0.414 inch and thickness is 0.019 to 0.031 inch. The wider bearing surface spreads load on sheet metal and thin flanges, but it will not weatherproof a hole, so for exterior roof or siding penetrations use a screw with a bonded neoprene washer instead.
3) Is a #10 x 1/2 inch self-drilling screw long enough for my application?
At 1/2 inch overall length with a #10 diameter and 16 threads per inch, the JTEKD4 is a short fastener. 4) Do I need to pre-drill a pilot hole for these screws?
No. The JTEKD4 is a Type BSD self-drilling and tapping screw, so the drill point cuts its own hole and the thread taps it in one pass. Set the gun to about 2,000 rpm range and let it seat, roughly 2.5 seconds through a 1 mm plate per the manufacturer data. Over-driving past seating is the usual way these strip thin sheet.
