Watts 3519B-1008 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the 3519B-1008 a male or female NPT thread on the pipe side?
Despite the catalog name reading "male elbow," the threaded end is specified as female threaded, 1/2 inch NPT. That means it accepts a male NPT nipple or male adapter, not a female fitting. Check which direction your existing thread runs before ordering, since the two are not interchangeable.
2) Can I use this Watts quick connect elbow on a potable water line?
Yes. The 3519B-1008 is lead free, so it is suitable for potable water service. Its polysulfone body handles up to 250 psi and 180 F, which covers both cold and domestic hot water distribution.
3) Can I use the Watts 3519B-1008 on a gas line?
No. It is specified as not suitable for gas service. It is a water fitting only. For fuel gas you need a fitting listed for gas, typically black iron or a CSST transition, not a polysulfone push connect.
4) Will this plastic push fitting handle hot water at 180 degrees?
The rated maximum working temperature is 180 F (82 C), so standard domestic hot water at 120 to 140 F is well inside the range. The pressure ceiling is 250 psi (17.2 bar). Keep it off recirculating lines that run hotter than 180 F.
5) Why does the Watts 3519B elbow list a minimum temperature of 75 F?
The spec gives a minimum working temperature of 75 F (24 C). That is the low end of the published operating range for the polysulfone body, so this is not the fitting to specify for a line that will sit in freezing or unheated space without protection.
