1) What size tubing and thread does the Watts 3520B-1008 swivel elbow connect to?
The 3520B-1008 elbow takes 1/2 inch CTS tubing on the quick-connect inlet side and has a 1/2 inch female threaded outlet with NPSI (straight pipe) threads. Metric equivalent on the inlet is 15 mm. Because the outlet is straight thread rather than tapered NPT, it's meant to seal against a gasket or washer face, not by thread interference.
2) Can I thread the Watts 3520B-1008 elbow onto a standard NPT male pipe nipple?
Not as a reliable joint. The outlet on this elbow is NPSI straight thread, so it will start onto a 1/2 inch NPT male but the tapered NPT will not pull up and seal properly in a straight-thread port. Use it where a straight-thread mating part with a gasket or O-ring face seal is intended, such as a fixture supply or appliance connection. If you need a tapered joint, specify a fitting with NPT threads instead.
3) Is the Watts 3520B plastic quick-connect elbow rated for hot water lines?
Yes, up to 180 F (82 C) continuous, with a 250 psi (17.2 bar) maximum working pressure. That covers normal domestic hot water. The stated minimum service temperature is 75 F (24 C), so it is not a fitting to run in an unconditioned crawlspace or anywhere it can see freezing.
4) Is this Watts quick-connect elbow lead free for potable water?
The 3520B-1008 is lead free, and the body is polysulfone plastic rather than brass, so there is no lead-bearing alloy in the wetted path at all. That makes it usable on potable supply lines where lead-free hardware is required.
5) Can I use the Watts 3520B-1008 on a gas line?
No. This polysulfone elbow is a water fitting and is not suitable for gas service. For fuel gas you need a fitting specifically approved for gas, not a plastic push-fit water connector.
6) Does the Watts 3520B-1008 work with copper as well as PEX at 1/2 inch?
The inlet is a 1/2 inch CTS quick-connect port. CTS is copper tube size, which is the same outside diameter shared by 1/2 inch copper, PEX and CPVC, so the push-fit end is sized to accept 1/2 inch CTS tubing. Nominal-size plastic pipe that is not CTS will not seat correctly.
