1) What size tubing and thread does the Watts 3510B-1008 quick connect connector take?
The 3510B-1008 joins 1/2 inch CTS tubing on the push-fit side to a 1/2 inch female threaded outlet. The inlet is a quick connect (15 mm metric equivalent) and the outlet thread type is NPSI, a straight pipe thread, so it seals on a gasket or washer face rather than on tapered thread engagement. Body outer diameter is 1-1/8 inch.
2) Can I thread this Watts push-fit connector onto a tapered NPT male nipple?
Careful here. The outlet on the 3510B-1008 is NPSI, a straight thread, not tapered NPT. Straight threads do not seal by wedging the way NPT does, so they are made up against a washer or seat. If your stub-out is a tapered NPT male, you want a fitting whose outlet is called out as NPT rather than this one.
3) Is this Watts connector rated for gas lines?
No. The 3510B-1008 is not suitable for gas service. It is a potable water fitting. For fuel gas use a fitting specifically listed for gas.
4) Will this hold up on a hot water line?
Rated to 180 F (82 C) at a maximum working pressure of 250 psi (17.2 bar), so it handles normal domestic hot water. The stated minimum working temperature is 75 F (24 C), so it is not intended for freezing or chilled service.
5) Is the Watts 3510B-1008 lead free for potable water?
Yes, it is a lead free fitting. The body, both inlet and outlet, is molded polysulfone rather than brass, and there is no brass insert in it, so there is no leaded alloy in the wetted path. The sealing O-ring is EPDM.
6) Does this quick connect fitting have a metal stiffener or brass insert inside?
No brass insert. Inlet and outlet are both polysulfone. That matters if you are pushing onto soft tubing that normally needs a stiffener, PEX and poly tube typically do, so plan on inserting the appropriate tube stiffener separately for that material.
7) What is the difference between a CTS push-fit connector and a compression or sweat connection for a 1/2 inch supply?
The 3510B-1008 push-fit side goes on by hand, no torch, no nut and ferrule, which is why maintenance crews use them behind appliances and in tight cabinets. Sweat or compression is the pick where the joint has to be rigid, is buried in a wall, or is on a line running above the 250 psi / 180 F limits of this plastic body. The plastic body also means no dissimilar-metal concern where it lands on a threaded outlet.
