Metallics VT8 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Metallics VT8 cable tie be reopened and reused, or is it a one-time cinch like a nylon zip tie?
It is reusable. The VT8 closes with hook-and-loop rather than a ratcheting nylon pawl, so you can unwrap and re-dress a bundle without cutting the tie off. That is the practical reason electricians use it on data runs, temporary pulls, and any bundle that gets added to later, where a nylon zip tie has to be cut and replaced.
2) Is a Velcro cable tie like the VT8 safe for Cat6 and fiber, or should I use a zip tie?
Use the hook-and-loop tie for data and fiber. The VT8 wraps without a cinching ratchet, so there is no hard edge to crush the jacket or deform pair geometry, which is the usual cause of over-tightened zip ties failing a certification test. Reach for a nylon zip tie where you want a permanent, non-removable cinch on power conductors or outdoor work.
3) What is the Metallics part number for the 1/2 inch by 8 inch loop tie?
Order it as Metallics VT8. That is the manufacturer part number for the 1/2 x 8 inch hook-and-loop cable loop tie.
