Lenox ES-20583 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does a 10/14 TPI blade cut best, and when should I pick a different tooth count?
A 10/14 variable pitch sits in the general-purpose middle: it is aimed at metal and mixed material rather than fast wood ripping. The varying tooth spacing keeps at least one tooth engaged across thinner walls, so it suits pipe, conduit, angle and channel, unistrut and nail-embedded work. For fast rough cutting of framing lumber you want a coarser blade in the 6 TPI range; for thin-wall tubing and sheet metal go finer, up around 18 or 24 TPI, or the teeth straddle the wall and strip.
2) Will this Lenox 12 inch blade fit my Sawzall or other reciprocating saw?
Yes. The ES-20583 is a standard universal-shank reciprocating saw blade, so it drops into any Milwaukee Sawzall, DeWalt, Makita, Bosch or Ridgid recip saw with a standard 1/2 inch tang, keyless or set-screw chuck alike. The only thing to watch at 12 inches is stroke clearance and blade flex behind the cut; on tight work a shorter blade tracks straighter.
3) Why buy a bi-metal blade instead of a cheaper carbon steel one for electrical rough-in?
Carbon steel blades snap when they flex and dull quickly the moment they touch metal. The Lenox bi-metal construction welds a high speed steel tooth edge to a flexible alloy backer, so the blade bends without shattering and holds an edge through EMT, threaded rod, strut and screws. On electrical demolition and remodel work, where you are cutting through material with fasteners buried in it, that is the difference between one blade and five.
4) Does the Lenox ES-20583 blade pack carry a California Proposition 65 warning?
Yes, a Proposition 65 warning applies to this blade pack. If you are buying for a California jobsite or a facility that tracks Prop 65 labeling on incoming MRO stock, flag it in your receiving record. It does not affect how the blade cuts or where it can be used.
5) Is a 3/4 inch wide, .050 thick blade stiff enough for straight cuts, or will it wander?
The 3/4 inch width and .050 inch thickness is the heavier of the two common recip blade bodies, which is what keeps a 12 inch blade from wandering on a plunge or a long straight pass. Thinner .035 stock flexes more and is better when you want the blade to curve into a flush cut against a wall. For cutting off pipe or rod square, the .050 body is what you want.
