The JSHW3816 is tapped for 3/8-16 threaded rod. The swivel head is the part that takes the rod, so it suits hanging conduit, strut, or pipe off 3/8-16 all-thread. If your job is run with 1/4-20 or 1/2-13 rod, this is not the matching anchor.

Wood. The JSHW3816 is a wood-substrate anchor, so it drives into joists, blocking, or timber framing. For concrete deck or block you need a concrete rod hanger (a drop-in anchor or a concrete screw style hanger), not this one.

The anchor body is 1/4-20 x 2 inches. That gives you 2 inches of embedment into the wood member, which matters if you are fastening through furring or a layer of sheathing, since anything you pass through comes off that 2 inches of engagement.

The swivel head pivots, so the rod can hang plumb even when the anchor is driven into a sloped or out-of-square surface, like the underside of a pitched roof deck or an angled joist. A fixed hanger forces the rod to follow the angle of the fastener. The JSHW3816 pairs that swivel with a 1/4-20 x 2 wood anchor and a 3/8-16 rod tapping.

It is an electrical-trade fastener, and it gives you a wood-anchored attachment point for 3/8-16 rod, which is the common rod size for conduit hangers, strut trapezes, and box or fixture supports.
