Metallics CT14SS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the tensile strength and length of the Metallics CT14SS stainless cable tie?
The Metallics CT14SS is a 14 inch cable tie with a 150 lb tensile rating, made from 316 stainless steel. That length wraps sizable bundles, conduit runs, and pipe, and the 150 lb pull rating is what you want on loads that shift or vibrate rather than a light signal-wire bundle.
2) Can the CT14SS cable tie be used outdoors or in a corrosive environment?
It is made of 316 stainless steel, the grade specified where chlorides and salt are in play, so it holds up in coastal, wastewater, food processing, and washdown areas where nylon ties chalk out and 304 can pit. Metal ties also do not soften with heat the way plastic does.
3) Should I use a stainless steel cable tie or a nylon tie for exterior conduit bundles?
Nylon is fine indoors and in conditioned spaces and it is faster to install by hand. Go stainless, like the 316 CT14SS, when the bundle sees UV, heat, chemicals, salt air, or a fire-rated or plenum area where a melted tie means the bundle drops. A stainless tie is tensioned and cut with a tie gun; budget for that tool if your crew does not already carry one.
