1) Can I drive the Metallics TS60B tapping screw with a Phillips bit, or does it need a flat blade?
Either works. The TS60B has a combination slotted/Phillips pan head, so you can run it with a #3 Phillips driver or set it by hand with a flat blade. The Phillips recess measures 0.274 inch across with a 0.118 to 0.144 inch gaging depth, and the slot is 0.064 to 0.075 inch wide by 0.06 to 0.085 inch deep. On a #14 screw a #2 Phillips will cam out, so stock the #3.
2) Will a #14 sharp point tapping screw bite into sheet metal without a pilot hole?
The TS60B is a Type A tapping screw with a gimlet (sharp) point, which is the point style meant to start in thin sheet metal and soft materials without a pre-drilled pilot in light gauges. Thread pitch is 10 threads per inch, coarse enough to pull in sheet without stripping. In heavier gauge steel you still want a pilot hole, since the point only pierces, it does not drill like a self-drilling point.
3) Are Metallics TS60B tapping screws acceptable on a Buy American or ARRA funded job?
