FTG x P is the end configuration of the Viega 14543 reducer: the 1-1/2 inch end is a fitting (FTG) end sized like copper tube so it inserts INTO another 1-1/2 inch press fitting or socket, while the 3/4 inch end is a press (P) socket that receives 3/4 inch copper tube. So you are not pressing 1-1/2 inch tube into this part, you are pressing the part into a 1-1/2 inch fitting and bringing 3/4 inch tube out the other side.
2) Will a Viega ProPress reducer work on a 1-1/2 inch branch where I need to drop to 3/4 inch for a fixture?
That is exactly the transition this part makes. The 14543 takes a 1-1/2 inch line down to 3/4 inch in one fitting, so a 3/4 inch fixture drop or branch off a 1-1/2 inch copper run needs no bushing stack. Because the large end is an FTG end, it has to land in a 1-1/2 inch press socket, such as a tee or coupling outlet, rather than onto bare 1-1/2 inch tube.
