Viega 78087 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What do the FTG and P ends mean on the Viega 78087 ProPress reducer?
The 78087 is a street-style reducer: one end is a fitting end (FTG) and the other is a press socket (P). The FTG end is sized to slip into the socket of another 1 inch copper fitting rather than over tube, and the press end accepts 3/4 inch copper tube and gets crimped with a press tool. That lets you step from 1 inch down to 3/4 inch right at an existing fitting without adding a coupling.
2) What does Smart Connect do on the Viega 78087 press fitting?
Smart Connect is Viega's unpressed-connection feature: an untouched 3/4 inch press joint will leak visibly during pressure testing so you find it before the walls close. It does not change how the fitting is installed, and it is not a substitute for pressing every joint.
