Red Dot CKPS-BR – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Red Dot CKPS-BR cover work over a GFCI receptacle, or just a standard duplex?
The CKPS-BR single-gang while-in-use cover accepts GFCI, single, duplex or switch device configurations, so one cover handles all four. That makes it a reasonable standardization choice when a property has a mix of GFCI exterior outlets and switched receptacles and you want one part number on the truck.
2) How far does this Red Dot bronze while-in-use cover stick out from the wall?
The CKPS-BR measures 2-5/32 x 4-11/16 x 6-5/32 inches overall. It is the shallow version of the extra-duty while-in-use cover, so the 2-5/32 inch figure is the depth off the wall face. Shallow covers suit a straight cord cap or a flat GFCI plug; a right-angle plug or a bulky transformer block usually needs a deep cover instead.
3) Will the CKPS-BR fit a two-gang outlet box?
No. It is a single-gang cover only, sized for one device opening at 4-11/16 x 6-5/32 inches with a 2-5/32 inch depth. A two-gang exterior box needs a two-gang while-in-use cover; mounting this one will leave half the box open.
4) Is the Red Dot CKPS-BR a metal cover or plastic?
Non-metallic. The CKPS-BR body is non-metallic with a bronze finish, and the hinge pin is stainless steel. Non-metallic means no painted steel to rust out at the hinge, which is why it gets specified on exterior walls that see weather; if your spec or the AHJ calls for a die-cast metal cover, this is not that part.
5) Which Red Dot cover should I use in a high-traffic area where the lid gets flipped constantly?
For openings that get used daily, the stainless steel hinge pin on this bronze cover is the detail that matters. Hinge pins are the first thing to fail on while-in-use covers, and a stainless pin will not seize or corrode. It is the extra-duty version of the single-gang shallow cover.
6) How does the Red Dot CKPS-BR cover mount to the box?
It uses keyhole mounting, so the screws start in the device or box mounting holes and the cover drops and locks onto them rather than needing the plate held in position while you drive both screws. Handy on a ladder or a wall where you only have one hand free.
7) Does this bronze cover come with gasket or insulation?
No insulation material is supplied with the CKPS-BR, and it is sold as a single cover, each. Plan on supplying any device, box, and sealant the installation needs separately.
8) Is the Red Dot CKPS-BR made in the USA?
Country of origin is the United States. That matters on public work where domestic-sourcing language appears in the bid documents.
