Red Dot CKPS-W – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Red Dot CKPS-W cover fit over a GFCI receptacle?
Yes. The CKPS-W single-gang while-in-use cover accepts GFCI, single, duplex or switch device configurations, so one cover handles the common outdoor device types rather than needing a device-specific plate.
2) Is a shallow while-in-use cover like the CKPS-W enough, or do I need a deep one?
A shallow cover such as the CKPS-W is for a plug with a low-profile cord end sitting in the receptacle. If you are plugging in a bulky transformer, a timer, a right-angle wall wart or a GFCI-corded tool plug, the lid will not close over it and you want a deep or extra-deep in-use cover instead. Measure the plug body depth before you commit.
3) Does the CKPS-W cover a single-gang box only, or will it span two gangs?
Single gang only. The CKPS-W is a 1-gang cover, so a two-gang box needs a two-gang in-use cover instead. It mounts over the device on a standard single-gang outdoor or flush box.
4) Is the Red Dot CKPS-W a metal or plastic weatherproof cover?
It is non-metallic, in white. The hinge pin, though, is stainless steel, which is the part that normally fails first on a plastic in-use cover. Non-metallic means no corrosion or paint chipping on coastal and wash-down exteriors.
5) Will the CKPS-W hold up on a high-traffic exterior wall or a multi-family property?
The hinge pin is stainless steel, which Red Dot calls out for high-traffic areas, and the cover is the extra-duty type. For property managers standardizing outdoor receptacles across a building, the single-gang white non-metallic body is the common match to white devices and plates already in place.
6) Is the Red Dot CKPS-W sold individually or in a carton?
Sold each, one cover per unit, under manufacturer part number CKPS-W. Order the quantity of openings you are covering.
7) Where is the Red Dot CKPS-W made? I have a domestic-content requirement on a government job.
Country of origin is the United States. That is the data point procurement usually needs for a domestic preference clause on a federal or institutional order.
