Thomas & Betts EYVF-33 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the EYVF-33 seal be installed in a horizontal conduit run?
No. The EYVF-33 is built as a vertical sealing fitting, so it is intended for a vertical section of the run where the sealing compound can be poured and will cure in place. For a horizontal run or a turn, use a fitting made for that orientation, such as the Crouse-Hinds EYS29 vertical elbow sealing fitting for a change of direction.
2) What does a conduit sealing fitting like the EYVF-33 actually do in a run?
It is a poured-compound seal fitting for a rigid conduit run: the body gives you a chamber to dam and fill with sealing compound around the conductors, blocking the passage of gases, vapors and flame through the conduit between areas. It is a conduit fitting, not a junction or pull box, so conductors pass through it without splices.
3) What other brands can I use in place of a Thomas & Betts EYVF-33 vertical seal?
For a vertical seal, the Appleton EY-75 Series vertical malleable iron conduit sealing fitting is the closest counterpart. Appleton also offers the EYS Series 25 percent fill sealing fitting, and Crouse-Hinds the EYS29 in 3/4 inch for a vertical elbow seal. Match the trade size to your conduit first; the EYVF-33 is 1 inch.
4) Is sealing compound and fiber dam included with the EYVF-33?
The EYVF-33 ships as the fitting itself. Sealing compound and fiber damming material are consumables ordered separately, so add them to the order along with the fitting if you do not already stock them on the truck.
5) How many EYVF-33 part numbers do I need to order for one size?
One. EYVF-33 is a single catalog number covering the 1 inch female vertical seal, with no handing, finish or option suffix to specify.
