Intermatic PJB2175 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) How many pool lights can I land in an Intermatic PJB2175 junction box?
Two. The PJB2175 is the 2-light version of Intermatic's pool and spa junction box, so it's sized for a pair of fixture cords plus the supply. If you're wiring a single light or more than two, you want a different capacity box in the same polymeric family rather than crowding this one.
2) What size conduit or cord can I bring into the Intermatic PJB2175 pool junction box?
The box takes flexible cords and non-metallic conduit up to 1 inch. That covers the typical PVC run from the niche or a cord-connected landscape fixture. It is set up for non-metallic conduit, so if your deck run is rigid metal you'll need the appropriate transition ahead of the box.
3) What are the dimensions of the Intermatic PJB2175 junction box, and will it fit in a tight deck space?
It measures 7.25 x 4 x 3 inches. That's a small footprint for a two-light box, which matters when you're mounting on a riser behind a pump pad or tucking it into planting beside a spa. Plan for enough clearance above the cover to pull it for service without disturbing the conduit.
4) Is the Intermatic PJB2175 junction box going to corrode near chlorinated pool water?
The body is polymeric, not metal, so there's nothing in the enclosure to rust out from chlorine or salt cell overspray. That's the practical reason these boxes are non-metallic in the first place. The color is black.
5) Will the Intermatic PJB2175 work for low voltage landscape lighting, not just pool lights?
Yes, landscape lighting is one of its listed applications, and these polymeric boxes are made for low voltage connections. Contractors use the same box for underwater fixtures and for path or bed lighting on the same property, which keeps one enclosure type across a job.
6) How do I make the grounding connections in an Intermatic pool light junction box?
There's a ground bar inside the PJB2175, positioned for easy access, so the fixture cord grounds and the equipment grounding conductor terminate on the bar rather than under a wire nut. That's what makes the box serviceable later: pull a light, land it back on the bar, done.
7) What is the exact model number to order for the Intermatic 2-light pool and spa junction box?
PJB2175 is the Intermatic part number for the 2-light polymeric pool and spa junction box. Intermatic's PJB series runs by connection count, so specify the number of light connections you need when you quote it out.
