Viega 25031 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size pipe does the Viega 25031 MegaPressG coupling connect?
The 25031 MegaPressG coupling joins 1/2 inch to 1/2 inch, press on both ends (P1 x P2). It is a straight coupling, so both sides take the same 1/2 inch carbon steel pipe.
2) Is the Viega 25031 a stop-type or no-stop coupling, and when do I use each?
It is the no-stop version. There is no internal ring in the middle, so the coupling can slide fully onto one pipe end and then back over the joint. That is what you want for repairs and tie-ins where you cannot spring the pipe apart. On new runs where you can insert both ends freely, a coupling with a stop is easier because it sets insertion depth for you. With the no-stop, mark your insertion depth on both pipes before pressing.
3) Can I use a MegaPressG carbon steel coupling on gas line?
MegaPressG is Viega's gas-rated press system, and the 25031 is a MegaPressG carbon steel coupling in 1/2 inch. It uses Smart Connect technology, which leaves an unpressed connection detectable during pressure testing so a missed joint shows up before the system goes live. Always follow local gas code and your AHJ for the application.
4) Do I need a special tool or jaw to install the Viega 25031?
Yes, this is a press fitting, not threaded. You need a press tool with the correct MegaPress jaw or ring for 1/2 inch carbon steel. No threading, no flame, no dope. Nothing is included with the coupling itself, so the tool and jaw are a separate purchase.
5) How much clearance do I need around the Viega 25031 coupling in a tight chase?
The fitting body measures 2.697 inches long and 1.264 inches in both height and width. Add room for the press jaw itself, which needs clear space around the full circumference of the fitting to close, so plan more than the 1.264 inch body diameter when the pipe runs near joists or block.
6) How much does a 1/2 inch MegaPressG coupling weigh for a bulk order?
Each 25031 coupling weighs 0.264 lbs. Useful if you are pricing freight on a full truck rollout or stocking a service van with a few hundred of them.
