The MegaPressG 25101 is a 1/2 inch press end by 1/2 inch male pipe thread adapter (P x MPT). The press side goes onto 1/2 inch carbon steel pipe with a MegaPress jaw, and the threaded side screws into a female-threaded valve, appliance connection, or fitting. No welding or threading on the pipe side.
2) Is the Viega 25101 rated for gas or only water?
It is a MegaPressG fitting, which is Viega's gas line of press fittings, made of carbon steel with Smart Connect technology so an unpressed joint shows itself during pressure test. Use it on black iron gas piping systems; the standard MegaPress (non-G) line is the one intended for other services.
3) Can I press the Viega 25101 onto copper or stainless pipe?
No. This adapter is carbon steel and its press end is sized for 1/2 inch carbon steel (black iron) pipe. Pressing it on copper or stainless tube will not give a sealed, code-acceptable joint. For copper you need a copper press fitting; for stainless, a stainless press fitting.
4) How much room do I need to fit the Viega 25101 adapter in a tight space?
The fitting itself measures 2.52 inches long and 1.264 inches in both height and width, so it is compact, but you also need clearance around the press end for the press tool jaw to close fully on the pipe. Lay out the run so the jaw has a clear swing at the press ring, not just the fitting body.
