Viega V25450 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What are the three outlet sizes on the Viega MegaPress 25450 tee, and which one is threaded?
The 25450 is a reducing tee sized 1-1/2 inch x 1-1/2 inch x 1-1/4 inch. The connection pattern is P1 x P2 x FPT, so the two 1-1/2 inch run ends are press connections and the 1-1/4 inch branch is female pipe thread. You press the run onto the pipe and thread into the branch.
2) Do I need a special tool to install the Viega 25450 MegaPress tee?
The two 1-1/2 inch run ends are press connections, so they require a press tool with the correct MegaPress jaw or ring for 1-1/2 inch. No torch, no threading machine, no pipe dope on those ends. Only the 1-1/4 inch branch is threaded, and that one goes together with standard thread sealant and a wrench.
3) Is the Viega 25450 the same part as model 4817.2?
Yes. 25450 is the Viega order number and 4817.2 is the model designation for the same MegaPress tee, 1-1/2 inch x 1-1/2 inch x 1-1/4 inch with an FPT branch. If a submittal or takeoff lists 4817.2 in that size, 25450 is the part to buy.
4) What does Smart Connect do on a Viega MegaPress fitting?
Smart Connect is Viega's unpressed-joint feature. On a MegaPress fitting like the 25450, a connection that was assembled but never pressed will leak during pressure testing rather than hold, so the installer finds the missed joint at test instead of after the system is in service and covered up.
5) Is this a copper or stainless MegaPress fitting, and does the material matter for what I run through it?
It is carbon steel, not copper or stainless. Carbon steel MegaPress fittings are matched to carbon steel and black iron pipe systems, so the fitting and the pipe are the same base metal. If your line is copper tube or stainless, this tee is the wrong family and you need the corresponding copper or stainless press fitting instead.
6) Where is the Viega MegaPress 25450 tee manufactured?
Made in Germany. That matters on public and institutional jobs where country of origin has to be documented in the submittal package, so it is worth capturing on the O and M paperwork when you spec it.
