Viega 25611 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What are the two ends on the Viega MegaPressG 25611 fitting, press or threaded?
One end presses, one threads. The 25611 is a P x FPT adapter: the 1-1/2 inch side is a MegaPressG press connection that goes onto carbon steel pipe with a press tool, and the 3/4 inch side is female pipe thread for a male-threaded nipple, valve, or appliance connector. You do not need to thread the pipe itself.
2) Can I use the Viega 25611 on copper or PEX?
No. It is a carbon steel MegaPressG fitting, sized and sealed for carbon steel pipe. Copper needs a ProPress copper fitting and PEX needs a PureFlow fitting. Pressing this onto the wrong pipe material will not give you a reliable joint.
3) Is the Viega 25611 the right fitting to drop a gas line down to a 3/4 inch appliance connection?
That is exactly the transition it makes. Press the 1-1/2 inch end onto the carbon steel main and thread a male-threaded drop, valve, or connector into the 3/4 inch FPT outlet. MegaPressG is the gas-rated side of the Viega press line, as opposed to plain MegaPress for water and other non-gas service.
4) What does the Smart Connect feature on this Viega MegaPressG adapter actually do for me on the job?
It makes an unpressed joint show itself. During pressure testing, a connection that was skipped will leak noticeably so you can find it and press it, rather than discovering it after the wall is closed. It is a rework-avoidance feature, which is why crews doing long gas runs with many joints care about it.
5) Do I need to add anything to the 3/4 inch threaded side of the Viega 25611?
The threaded port ships bare, so plan on an approved thread sealant or tape rated for the service, plus whatever male-threaded nipple or valve you are landing in it. The press side needs no sealant or dope, just a clean, deburred, correctly marked pipe end and the right jaw.
